Freeload

Most of us can relate to a crowded airport security or customs line. Some of these collections of people carry conventional luggage and backpacks and some have cellophane bags. This exhibition lets the luggage represent the people that own them. This is where priority of possessions comes into play. Often the immigration process requires the owner to choose between cherished family possessions and life giving tools. The project examines my personal connection with things through the perspective of the immigration process. The show title is Freeload which has two meanings. It can pertain to a misconception of immigrants. This country is founded on immigrants and the hard work they have and continue to provide to growth the nation, yet this term is used in relation to their societal contribution. The show title also can also be applied to any of the previous installations in my portfolio. The work is about gathering, resourcefulness and invention.
